I’d like to thank The New York Times for my chuckle of the morning. Apparently, tech blogger Damon Darlin and his editor needed a little more coffee before publishing this post today about banning the words “nerd” and “geek.”

And by the way, Professor David Anderegg… I’ve embraced my inner geek. I think geek has become acceptable now. Nerd, however, still has rather negative connotations. Unless you’re talking about the Willy Wonka candy Nerds, because YUM!

Despite the fact that it’s just a pretty piece of paper right now, I do hold a Master’s degree in Psychology… and the study is fascinating to me. So I was intrigued by TweetPsych when it first appeared in my tweet stream.

I’ve been thinking. All this writing is very time consuming. I’m good at it – pretty awesome, actually – and it pays well, but I don’t have time for much of anything else. I tried to think about different ways to lessen my workload while still paying the bills, and it came to me that a lot of SEOs would pay big bucks to know exactly what I did as a quality rater for Google.

My NDA with Google was over 30 pages long, but I think I’ve found some wiggle room. I’m accepting private bids for a one-day session with me to go over the quality rater guidelines, the types of projects I did, and how I find it so funny that everyone is chuckling over the news about longer snippets for long-tail queries, since I’ve been calling them snippets in my head for three years now.

Am I having a crisis of ethics? Nah. Just a spur-of-the-moment, late-to-the-game, hopefully obvious April Fools prank.

Wow, that didn’t take long! In addition to hundreds of unique visitors to my brand new Web site yesterday – which is quite literally brand new because I set up my nameservers on Monday night and got my hosting settled on Tuesday – I’ve already been unmasked as a superhero!

Dude, I’m a superhero? Awesome!

But seriously, I appreciate the amount of publicity you guys have given me, and the free press!

…And that’s just going back 8 pages in Twitter search, after I launched the site. This doesn’t include the hundreds of supportive tweets I got in the 24 hours before that. It does wonders for my self-esteem when people I look up to and respect in the industry not only acknowledge my existence (which was a surprise in many cases – yeah, I have self-esteem issues) but rally behind me!
